The Challenge
For pastoralist families, livestock are their primary economic asset and a cornerstone of their culture. However, limited access to professional veterinary services in remote areas leaves these valuable animals vulnerable to preventable diseases, threatening the economic stability of entire communities.
Our Solution
Our solution is to build a sustainable healthcare system from within the community. We identify, train, and equip local individuals to become Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs), creating a network of trusted and accessible providers who can deliver timely care and promote preventative health practices.
Key Activities
Conducting regular training sessions for herders on primary animal health and disease prevention.
Establishing and supporting Community Animal Health Worker (CAHW) associations.
Providing comprehensive training and essential toolkits to all CAHWs.
Supplying start-up capital for community-managed veterinary pharmacies to ensure a consistent supply of necessary drugs and equipment.
Collaborating with district Animal Health units to conduct disease surveillance and response.
Impact by the Numbers:
460 herders trained in animal health practices.
90 individuals equipped to serve as Community Animal Health Workers.
80 households directly supported with improved veterinary access.
6 CAHW associations established to ensure long-term, local service.
