Fostering Economic Self-Reliance and Sustainable Livelihoods

The Challenge

In the rural areas we serve, limited and unreliable income sources create a cycle of poverty and food insecurity. Women and youth, in particular, often lack access to financial services, business skills, and the capital needed to launch and sustain their own enterprises, hindering their ability to build a secure future for their families.

Our Solution

Our solution is centered on the proven power of community-based Self-Help Groups (SHGs). We facilitate the formation of these small, trusted groups, which serve as a platform for members—especially women—to save money together, access small loans, and develop the skills and confidence needed to start and grow their own income-generating activities.

Key Activities:

  • Establishing and providing orientation for 39 Self-Help Groups, with a strong focus on creating women-led groups.
  • Conducting comprehensive training for all 975 members on group dynamics, leadership skills, and financial literacy (including accounting and bookkeeping).
  • Delivering specialized training on business skills development and savings & credit schemes.
  • Providing practical agricultural training in vegetable and fruit production to 325 women.
  • Supplying seed capital and essential materials, including quality seeds, to help groups launch their chosen income-generating activities.
  • Constructing local storage facilities to reduce post-harvest losses and improve market access.

Impact by the Numbers:

  • 975 individuals (including 625 women and 350 youth) empowered with new skills and opportunities.
  • 39 community-owned Self-Help Groups established and operational.
  • 325 women trained in modern agricultural techniques to improve food security and income.
  • 25 dedicated women’s SHGs created, fostering female leadership and economic independence.
